From intern to retail project manager. Niël has been a familiar face at Harmeling for over twelve years. In this interview, he shares how his career took shape and what keeps him so enthusiastic about working in the retail industry.
How It All Began
Niël started at Harmeling as an intern during his vocational training in Interior Construction. He quickly felt at home within the organization and was given the opportunity to continue his college education part-time while continuing to work at Harmeling. He has now been a happy member of the team for years.
Growth at Harmeling
Over the years, Niël has held various positions. He started in production, then worked in work planning, and eventually advanced to become a Retail Project Manager. In that role, he serves as the link between the client, suppliers, and the internal team.
“I look ahead, monitor the process, and ensure everyone can adapt in a timely manner. No two days are the same, and that’s what makes the work fun.”
Why Harmeling?
Although he initially wondered if a larger organization would be a good fit for him, he quickly felt at home at Harmeling.
“The atmosphere is great and the team is close-knit. You’re given a lot of responsibility and room to grow.”
Working with ambitious brands
Projects for retail brands require flexibility and a fast pace. That suits Niël perfectly.
“It’s rewarding to create something together that clients are happy with. The appreciation we receive makes the work even more enjoyable.”
What gives him energy
“When everything comes together. When a new concept is finalized and the client is satisfied, that’s when you know what it’s all for.”

"Thinking on your feet, staying organized, and relying on expertise—that's what retail is all about."
