PGS-Hoekman Expansion: A Sustainable Comprehensive Design with a Visible Impact
A comprehensive interior design concept was developed and implemented for the expansion of PGS-Hoekman’s business premises in Rijssen. The new cafeteria and office spaces for Finance, Internal Sales, and Management serve as a logical extension of the existing facility and reinforce the organization’s identity.
Starting in January 2025, the project was undertaken as a comprehensive effort, from design through to completion. The design was handled by our in-house design department, Studio Harmeling, after which the process was fully translated into project management, engineering, production, and installation. The result is a turnkey delivery that balances functionality and aesthetics, with an eye toward the long term.

Technology and sustainability integrated into the building
A unique element of the project is located on the ground floor. Here, a technical room has been equipped with an incinerator that utilizes waste material from pallet production. The heat generated is directly used to heat the building. This makes sustainability not only visible in the interior but also embedded in the building’s technology.
Reuse and circular choices as a starting point
Existing furniture has been reused wherever possible, supplemented by conscious choices for circular and sustainable products. In collaboration with the client’s regular partners, including Vepa and Interface, an interior has been created in which material use and origin play a clear role.
Vepa’s furniture is circularly designed and produced using recycled materials and reusable components. Interface’s carpet tiles consist largely of recycled and bio-based raw materials and are produced with significantly reduced CO₂ emissions. For the flooring, Forbo’s Marmoleum Cocoa was chosen, which gives waste streams such as cocoa husks a second life.
The result is a work environment that is not only functional and presentable but also demonstrates how sustainability and circularity can be effectively and convincingly implemented in both design and execution.

“Sustainability shouldn’t be an afterthought; it should be integrated from the start. In this design, you can see how material choices and engineering come together to form a single, cohesive whole.”
